Profile

Jonty attended Birmingham School of Art and graduated with a B.A Hons Degree in Fine Art (Sculpture). Then working with large non- figurative pieces he worked in the studio of the sculptor Stephen Cox.

Inspired by horses, Jonty turned to working figuratively in wax. He is interested primarily in movement, the relationship of the horse with the rider and the balance of the sculpture with the ground. The relationship with the ground being very important. As with "Perfect Landing" Jonty is trying to infuse in the sculpture the weight through the body, as the horse hits the ground. Again with "Showjumper" expressing the movement of the weight as the horse springs up and "pings" into the air.

Similarly with the ballet figures, weight and balance are the prime concern, together with capturing the atmosphere of the moment and beauty of the subject.

Jonty's sculptures are exhibited in many galleries throughout the United Kingdom and he is available to take commissions.
